Greetings! Welcome to my art site.

I was honoured to be the artist appointed by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales on his tour of New Zealand in November 2012 - read more.

I'm captivated by the challenge of painting in watercolour. When pigments are floated in water they create beautiful colour blends, transparent glows, mysterious darks. Watercolour flows and explores and I go exploring with it.

My watercolour kit comes everywhere with me. Painting 'on site' means the chance to feel the mood of the day. I love to wander off to the hills, valleys, beaches and villages in New Zealand and anywhere - to paint – especially with friends. In the last 3 years I have sketched my way through France, Italy, Spain, Ireland and England. Take a look at my 'sketches' page.

I am currently vice president and formerly President of Watercolour New Zealand. I am editor of the society's newsletter, co-ordinator of workshops and watercolour weekend safaris. New Zealand boasts wonderful water-colourists. We are a very active, friendly group meeting to paint, share and learn and laugh. Please visit Watercolour New Zealand's website.

I live in the village of Te Marua at the head of the Hutt Valley, north of Wellington and spend each January in the gliding world at Omarama, soaring and painting the glorious Southern Alps.

I am a glider pilot, a ski instructor in Austria for 6 winters in the 1970s, a fly-fisherman and cyclist ... but painting fills my head!

I have learned with many fine tutors. My friend and painting buddy, Jacky Pearson, has been a great influence in my development as an artist.
